As a volunteer tutor Ian assisted students in Kindergarten and grade one who were struggling to meet early literacy and numeracy milestones, through individualised, interactive sessions.
Ian was required to plan and execute one-on-one sessions with a student and their parent, each an hour in length. He worked with two students over the course of this 10 week programme both with very different needs. During his weekly sessions, Ian taught and modelled hands-on games and activities to advance his students' knowledge in letter sound association, letter and number recognition, and other early reading and maths skills. He also facilitated parent involvement, encouraging parents to practice activities with their child during the session in order to then implement them at home.
Ian was a dedicated, creative tutor who came with many unique ideas each week. He consistently put time into planning activities that he felt would be beneficial for his students and their parents.
